DAY-BY-DAY PROGRAM
The route, step by step
Each of the 4 days combines route, history and rest. This is the complete program, step by step.
-
DAY 1
Cusco – Abra Málaga – Santa María (biking)
We start with pickup from your hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 am to head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we have our breakfast. We continue the journey to Abra Málaga (4,350 m), the highest point of the tour and where we start the downhill bike ride. The descent lasts approximately three and a half hours, with beautiful natural landscapes and a variety of flora and fauna, until we reach the town of Huamanmarka. From there we continue by vehicle to Santa María, where we have lunch and the chance to do the optional rafting activity on the sacred Inca river, the Vilcanota. We end the day at our accommodation in Santa María.
-
DAY 2
Santa María – Santa Teresa (hike)
After breakfast (approx. 6:30 am) we start the day's hike through the high jungle, surrounded by lush vegetation, orchids and tropical birds. After about 6 hours of walking along trails and jungle paths we reach Santa Teresa. In the afternoon, free time to enjoy the Cocalmayo hot springs (optional) or the included canopy / zipline activity. Dinner and night in Santa Teresa.
-
DAY 3
Santa Teresa – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes (hike)
After breakfast we board the vehicle to the Machu Picchu Hidroeléctrica (~1 hour). From there we start a flat walk of approximately 3 hours along the railway, following the course of the Urubamba River between mountains, with panoramic views of Huayna Picchu and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in the distance. We arrive in Aguas Calientes for dinner and the night.
-
DAY 4
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Around 4:00 am we set off to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu: by bus (30 min) or walking along the Inca Trail route (1.5 hours). Along the way we have the chance to see a beautiful sunrise. After checking in at the control area at 6:00 am, we tour the citadel with our guide, who will share their knowledge of the most important places in Machu Picchu for 2 hours. Afterwards we have free time to explore this sanctuary. Later we return to Aguas Calientes to take the train to Ollantaytambo and from there the bus to the city of Cusco, where our excursion ends.
