DAY-BY-DAY PROGRAM

The route, step by step

Each of the 2 days combines route, history and rest. This is the complete program, step by step.

  1. DAY 1

Cusco – Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes

The tour starts at 8:00 am with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas: we visit the typical Pisac market, with its famous artisan fair, and the Pisac archaeological complex, with its picturesque cultivated terraces on the mountainside. We continue to Urubamba for lunch (optional, USD 20 per person) and visit the Ollantaytambo fortress, where descendants of the Incas still live in the original houses. Finally we head to the Ollantaytambo train station to board the 4:36 pm train: the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we arrive around 6:15 pm and spend the night at the selected hotel (Machu Picchu Pueblo).

    • Aguas Calientes 2,040 m
    • Hotel in Aguas Calientes
  2. DAY 2

    Machu Picchu Tour – Cusco

We wake up very early: after breakfast, we board the first bus at 5:30 am. In 30 minutes we reach the Machu Picchu citadel at 6:00 am to appreciate the majestic sunrise. We have a 2-hour guided tour of the most important places in Machu Picchu and, when it ends, about 4 hours of free time to explore on your own: you can hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) or to the Inca Bridge. At the appropriate time we descend from Machu Picchu to the town of Aguas Calientes to board the return train to Ollantaytambo and continue to Cusco, arriving around 8:00 pm.

Talk to an advisor
How demanding is the tour?

It is easy difficulty: you travel by bus and train, with short walks at Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. On the second day you get up early to see the sunrise at the citadel.

What is the best time to do it?

It can be done all year round. The dry season (May–October) offers clear skies; between November and March it rains more but the landscape is greener.

What altitude are we at?

Aguas Calientes is at 2,040 m and Machu Picchu at 2,430 m, much lower than Cusco (3,399 m), so altitude is not a concern on this tour.

How many people are in the group?

We work with small groups: Max 12 people. The guided tour inside Machu Picchu is in a small group.

What does the price include?

It includes transportation, round-trip train, Machu Picchu entrance, bilingual guide, 1 hotel night in Aguas Calientes and up-and-down buses. It does not include meals or the hot springs.
