The route, step by step

Each of the 3 days combines route, history and rest. This is the complete program, step by step.

1. DAY 1

   Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest

   We depart early at 5:30 am on a journey of approximately 10 hours with guided stops from Cusco, climbing to the highest point at 4,000 m. Along the way we make stops such as the pre-Inca Ninamarca chullpas and Paucartambo, the folkloric capital of Peru, at 2,950 m. After visiting the town we head to Acjanaco at 3,560 m, the entrance point to the Manu National Park (UNESCO), and descend to the cloud forest (1,500 m), where we hike to observe orchids, bromeliads, quetzals and toucans. In the afternoon we visit the cock-of-the-rock lek in San Pedro, where Peru's national bird performs its courtship display. Dinner and night in a cloud forest lodge, with optional night walk.

2. DAY 2

   Cloud Forest – Atalaya – Machuwasi Lake

   At dawn, a second visit to the cock-of-the-rock lek, its peak activity time, and breakfast. We descend by road through Pilcopata to Puerto Atalaya (600 m) and board the motorized boat on the Alto Madre de Dios for about 30–40 minutes to the lodge. After lunch we explore trails in search of monkeys, birds and peccaries, and at dusk we sail the Machuwasi oxbow lake by rowing catamaran: hoatzins, horned screamers, small caimans and monkeys on the shores. At night, a flashlight walk and caiman spotting by the red glow of their eyes. Dinner and night at the lodge.

3. DAY 3

   Parrot Clay Lick – Hummingbird Viewpoint – Cusco

   Before dawn we sail to the Alto Madre de Dios parrot clay lick: dozens of parrots and macaws come down to the clay wall in the early morning to eat the minerals. We return to the lodge for breakfast and sail upstream to Puerto Atalaya, with a stop at the hummingbird garden at the Pico de Hoz viewpoint, where dozens of hummingbirds, toucans and other birds approach within a few centimeters. The vehicle climbs the cloud forest, crosses Acjanaco and descends through Paucartambo to the Cusco valley, with lunch on the way. Arrival in the city in the late afternoon and transfer to the hotel. End of our services.
