The route, step by step

This is how the day unfolds, hour by hour, with everything you'll do and where.

  1. DAY 1

    Arequipa – Chiguata – Salinas Lagoon

    At 06:00–06:30 we pick you up from central hotels and start the tour to the traditional district of Chiguata, where we take a short walk to the Infiernillo de la Bedoya waterfall and visit its square and church. We continue to the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where we see several volcanoes — Misti, Pichu Pichu, Chachani, Tacune and Ubinas —, mountains and lagoons, including the Salinas Lagoon, at 4,300 m, with its flamingos and vicuñas (breakfast on the way). Then we head to the town of Moche to visit the Lojen mini-volcano and its rustic hot springs. At 14:30 we begin the return, arriving at the center of Arequipa around 16:30.

How demanding is the tour?

It is easy difficulty: you travel by bus and the walks are short. The maximum altitude is the lagoon at 4,300 m, crossed by vehicle.

How do I prepare for the altitude?

Spending one night in Arequipa (2,335 m) before the tour helps with acclimatization. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen: at 4,300 m the sun is very strong.

When can I see the flamingos?

They are more numerous in the dry season (May–November), when the lagoon level drops and the birds gather.

Are the hot springs included?

Yes, the bath in the rustic pools of the Lojen mini-volcano is included: bring your swimsuit and towel.

What does the price include?

It includes transportation, guide, breakfast, the Lojen mini-volcano and the hot springs. It does not include lunch or tips.
